Rodeo
Rodeo is a frequent event at the Wyoming State Fairgrounds in Douglas. In June of each year the grounds host a High School Rodeo
followed by the Wyoming High School Rodeo Finals later in the month. At this event the state’s top high school rodeo hands, the oldest of whom just graduated high school and the youngest of whom are finishing their freshman year, compete for a spot on the National High School Rodeo Team. Only the top four in each event qualify for the National High School Rodeo Finals in Farmington, N.M.
Catch the ranch rodeo at Deer Creek Days in Glenrock early August. Cowboys and cowgirls at this rodeo compete in a different array of events than those seen at modern-day rodeos. There’s a wild hide race, wild cow milking, branding with paint and action around every corner.
It’s rodeo time again when the Wyoming State Fair comes to town in August. Dating back to the early 1900s, rodeo is a long-time tradition at this event. Professional Rodeo Cowboy (PRCA) bronc riders, bull riders, ropers, barrel racers and steer wrestlers make the trip to Douglas to compete in this rodeo. This is also a great place for youngsters to get an autograph from Miss Rodeo Wyoming. A ranch rodeo is also held at the Wyoming State Fair on the opening Sunda. Beyond the ranch rodeo events, you’ll have a chance to see some of the area’s top bronc riders compete. Hold onto your hats as this rodeo has a reputation for getting a little western.
The dust has barely settled from State Fair when the Senior Pro Rodeo is held in Douglas. These cowboys and cowgirls, all over 50 yearsin age, are seasoned rodeo veterans who put on a fantastic rodeo performance.
