Wyoming State Fair:
Wyoming tradition comes alive each August with the Wyoming State Fair, an event that will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2012. Complete with livestock shows, a carnival, a concert, rodeo action, horse shows and more, this is a great event to plan your summer vacation around. You can stroll through the vendors, see Wyoming 4-H and FFA youth in action and catch the night shows. It’s a showcase of the best Wyoming has to offer! The 2010 Wyoming State Fair will be held August 14-21. This year's Barnyard Mardi Gras will include a concert by Joe Diffie with special guest Locash Cowboys on Wednesday at 7pm. Come enjoy free entertainment including The Eric May Band, The Younger Brothers, Lanky the Clown and many more performers throughout the week! To get the details check out the Wyoming State Fair website at www.wystatefair.com!
Douglas Motorsports Park: Engines roar to life beginning each May and spanning through September in Douglas as car race enthusiasts gather for the annual race season. Cool cars, coupled with high speeds, make for an entertaining event. Check out the group’s website at www.douglasmotorsportspark.com.
Truck & Tractor Pulls: Beginning each April, and lasting into September, the Glenrock community hosts a series of truck and tractor pulls. It’s a true test of just how tough your truck or tractor truly is. Competitors hook their rig up to sled that gains weight the further it’s pulled. The vehicle that pulls the farthest, wins the prize money! Participants from six states come to Glenrock to compete. Catch the details at www.cwapmtc.com.
Douglas Waterpark: Beat the summer heat with a trip to the Douglas Waterpark. Whether it’s a straight shot into the water, or twists and turns, the park’s two slides are a sure thrill. The pool sits adjacent to Douglas’ Washington Park and includes a wading pool, fountains and a small slide for the little ones.
Senior Professional Rodeo • Aug. 28: Cowboys and cowgirls from across the nation make the trip to Douglas to compete in this rodeo for contestants who are 50 and up. From the bronc riding to the barrel racing, it’s always a crowd pleaser. The rodeo is held each year on the final weekend in August.
Hunting Season: Elk, deer, bears and antelope can all be found within Converse County. Hunting for the animals requires a license from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, but once you’ve cleared that hurdle you’ll find hospitality in our communities. Both Douglas and Glenrock host annual hunters BBQs where hunters eat free of charge just by showing their license. Many sportsmen have been returning to Converse County with their families and friends for multiple generations. Watch for 2010 dates!
